How To Work From Home With A Job Writing Online
I don’t know about you but I have been ‘writing’ to amuse myself and others since the age of eight. Figuring out how to work from home with a job writing online had been a pursuit of mine for some time. I started making it a reality about nineteen months ago.
Over the years I have kept journals, I have written short stories, novellas, novels, and even screenplays. I’m even published and you can find my work on Amazon under my name TD Bauer. But I don’t make a livable income from those past ventures.
I was never really as good as I needed to be, never had any formal English education, never had a good editor to review my works. But I still enjoy writing and still pursue it.
And now I make a nice income as a blogger.

A few years ago I was looking for a means to make some extra cash to help cover some expenses. I turned to article writing and signed up with a couple online companies. It was fun, I learned a lot. But getting paid $5 to $15 per article I wrote was not cutting it.
I was putting in a few hours or more of research into every small article I wrote. Then writing the article would take another hour. Then editing it myself and carefully pouring over it to sharpen the content took another hour.
I was putting four to five hours into a thousand word article and making maybe eight dollars on average. Frankly that sucks, my time is worth more to me than that.
I looked at freelance writing as well. Freelance journalism could potentially pay much more, but getting into that field were you are actually sought after and could make sixty or more thousand dollars per year was cut-throat.
What I wanted to do was work for myself, on my terms, writing about what I wanted to write about. I also wanted to make more than just some extra spending cash… I wanted to eventually be able to work from home as a writer and make a lucrative living.
That’s when I discovered blogging.
How To Work From Home With A Job Writing Online – Blog!
Bloggers have been around since the internet was invented. Some people share online journals. Others who are experts in a specific field blog and share their knowledge. Then there are other people who do guest blogging, and write about anything and everything for anybody who will let them post on their sites.
What caught my attention with blogging was being able to own my own blog and write about what I was interested in. I always found that if I could write about a hobby or something I know a lot about, I could create written content so much more easily. The words would just flow out of me.
When I write about something I am passionate about, I can pound out a few thousands words with little to no effort. It’s not really work.
That’s when I learned about niche websites.
Niche websites are websites that focus on a single theme, such as camping, photography, fishing, cooking, computer gaming, Bluetooth speakers, or any number of specific things.
Basically if you have a hobby or an area of expertise you can make a niche website the pertains to the subject.
People who share your interest, or who are seeking information about your website’s area of focus will find it when they do searches online. When you start getting a good amount of visitor traffic to your niche website, you can start making an income from it.
Some bloggers will sell advertising, some will put up small adds that pay a few pennies every time somebody clicks on them. I don’t do any of that stuff. I do what’s called affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing works. I started blogging on my own niche website nineteen months ago and now make a little over $4k per month.

I mentioned camping and fishing above as ideas for a niche website. I actually have a couple niche websites that focus on and around those themes.
I write a lot about camping and fishing, places I have been to, places I want to go and do those things. I also write about my camping and fishing gear.
People who love those things tend to research them and read about them when they are not about to be out doing them. Magazines subscriptions were the rage in this country for decades. Field and Stream, Outdoor News, Glamor, Home Cooking… I am sure you have heard of them.
These days people get their magazines online, or they search for the content that interests them on google and find niche websites.
That’s how bloggers make money writing online. We provide information that people want to read and learn about.
When I write about some of my gear that I use I provide a link to an online retailer, such as Amazon, where people can go and buy that same gear. When they do, I make a commission on the sale.
I make a commission because I signed up with Amazon (or any other of the online retailers, they all do it) as an affiliate marketer.
The item they buy doesn’t have to be the item I write about on my niche website, it can be any item that person decides to buy during their visit, or any future visits up to twenty four hours later.
The commissions I make can add up fast. And I don’t have any product overhead, no phone calls to make, no customers to talk to, no product returns to deal with… I just write online at home and share my experiences and thoughts on my niche website.
If you are looking how to work from home with a job writing… consider blogging and creating your own niche website.
Getting Started – Get A Website

If you have a computer at home and an internet connection you can start today. You can even start for free. I mentioned that in my video above and being able to use a free website.
A good way to see if writing online is a good fit for you is to test it out first. I do my website hosting through Wealthy Affiliate. With just an email address you can create an account with them and get a ‘starter account’.
With a starter account you get two free websites, free web hosting, and even some easy to follow instructions on getting that website up and running – it’s great for newbies with little to no experience.
Eventually, if you decide you like writing online as a blogger, you will want to buy your own domain name and pay for web hosting. There are perks for doing that as an at home business owner.
When and if you get to that point the monthly cost to pay for hosting is about $30 to $250 per month. But, I am here to tell you I don’t pay more than about $34 per month for my hosting I do through Wealthy Affiliate.
The cost of doing business at home as an online writer is having a computer, an internet connection, and eventually owning your own domain name and web hosting.
